Pope Supports Public Breastfeeding

Nursing mothers around the world will be shouting "Hallelujah!"

Nursing mothers around the world will be shouting "Hallelujah!" when they hear the Pope supports public breastfeeding.

Regardless of your faith views, to have the Pontiff endorse public breastfeeding is a win for women everywhere.

According to Diply.com, the Pope was quoted as saying, “You mothers, go ahead and breastfeed, without fear. Just like the Virgin Mary nursed Jesus.”

Pope Francis is not simply supporting public breastfeeding, he goes so far as to welcome it even in the most sacred of places, the church.

For every woman who has ever felt scrutinized or, worse yet, discriminated against, for breastfeeding in public, this support comes as long-awaited validation.

This past Sunday in an annual baptism ceremony in the Sistine Chapel, NPR.org confirmed the Pope once again encouraged mothers to feed their babies if they were hungry during the two-hour-long service.

This is the second year in a row the Pope has made remarks in support of public breastfeeding, saying mothers should feed their children as "Mary breastfed Jesus."

But the Pope isn't the only big name speaking out in support of breastfeeding; a number of celebrities have taken a stand too, including Olivia Wilde (in this famous shot from Glamour magazine)
